The City of Charleston is reportedly optimistic about major flood conditions in the next five years. The city is at an increased risk of substantial flooding due to its low elevation and worsening climate change. The city has spent more than $50 million per year on drainage project improvements to fight the flooding. While the city waits for the projects to be completed, it has been working on fast maintenance projects that will immediately impact neighborhoods' flood response.
